I went to a Ukrainian Catholic Church for Liturgy. The entire response of the people, save for a few lines and the Our Father, were entirely in Ukrainian. I loved it so much (especially because I can read the letters of the Ukrainian alphabet and could therefore sing along).
Yeah it's been the norm for the vernacular be spoken. Although it is common to find some slovak, Spanish, Arabic, or other eastern European languages mixed in the Liturgy.
Beautiful! The only Eastern Rite liturgy I've been to was Maronite Rite, though there is a Byzantine church I've been meaning to get to for a while now. Is it the norm now for the Byzantine liturgy to be said in the vernacular? The Maronite one I went to was a mix of English, Arabic and Aramaic.

But the Liturgy is not always in vernacular.
