my biggest hope is that schiff gets elected because he is the ONLY person that has the balls to say what needs to be said. he isn't concerned with making people happy he is more concerned with what it will take to fix this mess

Just because the natives failed to name it something does not mean it was ok to invade America and claim it as our own.

We were pioneers of a new way of life in a new land. We were immigrants, however, from another country. Remember that Columbus accidentally found America, he was in fact looking for China/Indies.

Immigration with Mexico is solved by developing international monetary policies that REBUILD the mexican economy so that their population has a reason for staying there....they have a good job.

Water Reclamation of the SW USA and Northern mexico would produce a huge boon in agriculture..Mexico should start there and "irrigate".

Whom are the natives? America was an unnamed continent before it was settled by Europeans, so you can't be talking about the aboriginals. Further, the people that founded the country were, by definition, pioneers, not immigrants, so you're wrong on that score too.

Even without a welfare state (which isn't likely to go away, hence my idea), you'd have millions of illiterate people with HIV and tuberculosis wanting to come here. That would diminish the average American's quality of life.

the america we know today was founded by immigrants. if you want to have it your way, give it back to the natives.

the problem is the wellfare state. we have the same problem in germany. the problem arent the immigrants, the problem is that someone who is working have to pay for the immigrants

It sounds like Schiff would agree with the guest worker provision of 2008's amnesty bill. That's disappointing. How about an immigration policy that stresses English language proficiency, technical skills and sufficient financial capital to start a business? An immigrant with an MBA and $500,000 in savings is very unlikely to go on welfare. Also, do Americans really want their country to become a polyglot, with no ethnic majority?

I agree Peter's good at dealing with jerks; I'm just saying Peter is trying to educate the guy, is being completely honest, and the gut disrespected him; ergo he is a jerk.
