I didn't take an incredibly long time on this (about an hour), but I wanted to recreate from scratch my old explosion with more layers, more rubble, a more cinematic (or so I think) camera and film look, and a few other tweaks (lighting on the surface, glow, exposure keyframed, etc.).

I think the text looks cool. I actually rendered a still image out in Blender for the text since the AE text looks really 2D (even when using Shatter and/ or Bevel).

  • This shot is exactly what im looking to do with a current film project. Any chance you could provide information regarding where you obtained the explosion/s and your method for creating it? I'd be greatly appreciative. Great work. Thanks.

  • @oneups Stock footage from action essentials 2. I'll look for the project file later and PM you the shots I used.

  • Still Footage source?

  • @AverageGamerz More or less... it was a video on a tripod where I removed all of the actors, but there are still some cars in the background.

  • did you used explosion from videocopilt

  • The action essentials elements are slowed down, you need to speed'em up before you use them unless you're shooting a slow motion scene! :D

  • hm, "this" effect looks really good... hopefully I found one effect, which is really good :) good work, respect

  • i dont like the camera shake at the start of the explosion, the rest looks nice though.

  • I love the explosion, but then it's just a filmed one. Everything looks good except the text is not affected by the light coming from the explosion and the shadows the smoke would cast. It's just missing a light with animated intensity behind the text.

  • @Geared10k CS4, and its possible in about any version. Just fairly simple compositing, here.
