when defining constants at the beginning of the sketch like the ones in this video, does this assign the name of the constant to a pin or just a number?

hey guys, i'm getting this error on my macbookpro os 10.5.8, hooked up to arduino uno.
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
any idea how i can get around this?

@chartle1 That's what I was doing, but waiting 45min+ for it to buffer was getting kind of old.

@tyson42 Hit pause and let it buffer a bit before you hit play again.

@basiaska1 That usually means the board either isn't plugged in, doesn't have power, the right serial port isn't selected, or the right board type isn't set.
