People become fixated on fach whether tenor, baritone, soprano, contralto or whatever. A truly great voice transcends this nonsense.
Here is a magnificent instrument, finely trained and operating well within its range. Kaufmann injects both intelligence and good taste into his singing at a level perhaps not heard before.
I believe that this man may become not just the great tenor of the modern age but perhaps one of the greatest ever.
BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!

This is the stuff. Coralrabida, you just blessed me. We hear too many over-acted, over-screamed, over-emotional versions of this aria that just don't get to the bottom of things. Jonas keeps the line spinning, you hear him enunciate the text in a meaningful way, building to a resounding climax, and a thrilling release. This performance, in my opinion, ranks among the definitive versions of this aria. Jonas did it: he planted his feet, and handled business. Thanks for posting!

Exactly! He is good because he is good! Because he is talented, intelligent, has great skill and deep emotions. Because his art is beautifil and moving, and that is what is important, not the classification of his tembre and range. He looks great, too.

he is a HELDEN tenor .. his voice is dark! .. you can not decide beetween beeing a tenor or a baritone!

i agree with some of the comments but i thinkk he sounds more of a baritone then a tenor.

Great interpretation!!! Beautiful dark tenor tones add a special colour to this wonderful aria...

some of his vowels remind me of John Vickers.

His voice is amazing, the interpretation is a bit to slow, but the power of his voice overcomes that

WOW!!!! Simply AMAZING!!!

Incredible voice and perfect technika!
This man is the finest tenor before the public today. If he truly is a "heldentenor," then why in heaven's name did he make his Metropolitan Opera debut as Alfredo in Verdi's LA TRAVIATA? No heldentenor has ever sung that role.

Jonas Kaufmann lleva desde los 28 años cantando roles difíciles wagnerianos, de tenor heroico, en Alemania, pero como tiene una voz tan privilegiada se permite cantar otros roles.
