Sorry, guys. This isn't the 18th tee. Look up the Lake Course at Olympic. The are no buildings around the 18th tee, its's out by the 17th green surrounded by grass and trees (as you'd expect)! This must be the first tee. Guess he slipped more than once!

Power without traction--so true...in fact, with the rotational force of the golf swing, it's impossible. I know Toski and Flick used to talk about hitting balls while kneeling in a chair, etc., but I always thought, "Yeah, but the chair is planted, so you're just creating the same kind of force, albeit a little more carefully, with the chair as a substitute for lower legs--so what?"

Hogan did comment on this slip (it did cost him the US Open that year) - he said that the tee was worn and he said in hindsight that he should have shuffled his feet in to the dirt. He blamed himself for not coping with the conditions. He was so keen to get maximum traction from his right foot that he did in fact seek golf shoes with an extra spike (sometimes two) under the ball area of the right foot - I think those shoes were sent to him from England. Power without traction is no good, eh?

I understand he had custom shoes made with an extra spike - I wonder if that was a result of this shot or if he was already wearing those custom shoes at this time.

the right foot turns heel-over-toe. He doesn't look off balance to me. I would be curious to know what really happened to the ball on this shot. Look at how late the slip happens -well after impact. I think it is inconsequential. I agree with martinez, if he had slipped while pushing, the foot would go back. Here it is just following the body around because there is very little weight remaining on it and the ground is bare or at least tightly cut and dry.

After watching hundreds of Hogan vids, as I'm sure all of us have, he slides his foot on every drive and other long, full shots -partly I think due to a relatively wide stance. Try it -very difficult to keep the right foot back there after such a full turn through the ball with a wide stance. True, usually the slide is smaller and more toward the target rather than towards the target line as here. I think the ground was simply somewhat bare, allowing the slide to continue after

Who said anything about a secret.. I'm not from Canada. That has nothing to do with a secret you dipshit. Surely nerves were the ultimate culprit. I see other people make the same error, you just don't expect it from Hogan.......I would categorize you as completely oblivious. Pick up a club you lazy fuck.

Looks like our Mr. Hogan was flesh and blood. That was definately an 'Oh shit' moment, I could not see the fault at full speed but it obvious in the slower swing. He only did one thing wrong, everything else is consequence.
Keep looking and think it through, you might learn a few other things while your at it.

I would not categorize that as a slip. It is a compensating move, he is trying to save the shot.
Yes, his right foot slides on all his wood swings, but not like this one.
