--Classroom Area--

This video demonstrates how the Second Life virtual classroom I made functions. This project was done for a class that I was assisting a professor with. The class was called 'Strategic Management for Professionals', it ran during the 2009 Fall Semester at UOIT (September - December).

The first area contains stations for course material. This includes two screens, one for displaying lecture material via uploaded powerpoint slides, the second screen played associated youtube videos. Each section was broken up into a distinct area, with each area containing around six lecture stations.

--Interactive Field--

The second area is a more interactive space that allowed students to create roughly animated scenarios via a simple higher level script. The students created a text file with commands to move the units on the field around, as well as link to and play a youtube video they uploaded.

Text files were stored in the drop boxes seen in the video, and the desired one to play had its information sent to the three consoles where the information was parsed and dispersed to the correct units on the field. The consoles started the scenario when prompted, and made sure that all units started at the same time to keep the timing of the active units in the scenario in check. Inactive units converged to a point below the field until the scenario reset itself.

--Other Notes--

This was all scripted using the Linden Scripting Language (LSL). I did not create the powerpoint or youtube viewers, these were purchased from other SL residents prior to my involvement in this project. The field was functional, but fairly bare-boned in my opinion. Many things can be improved upon, but it was a successful first iteration; many bugs had to be solved along the way.

Thanks to the professors I did this with for the opportunity and the experience!

Finally! I apologize for the clarity of the video, I don't have the most experience with video capture like this, so it didn't turn out as nice as it could have!
