for kite boarding (or kitesurfing): learn how to act in emergancy situations. This should be known by all kiteboarders to avoid acidents, and to improve your confidence in the situation.

  • Hey Neil, thanx a lot for this idea and video but I think you forget 2 important things:

    1. How to "half-hitch", can't really see what you do there

    2. How to self-sail/rescue to the shore by using the kite's power. Cause it's quite hard to get both corners close enough to your body to actually sail it, especially with hard inflated kite/leading edge...

And it seems a bit hard to hold your kite under your elbow while your trying to swim in the ocean?

  • not self rescue. jst how to pack the kite on water, change tittle!!!!!

  • Sorry! But just a small detail... When you pull your safety line to arrive to the bar your thumb is down in the line, if your kite is catch by a wave and pull your kite you have a big chance to get your thumb burnt... Place your thumb up on the line when you pull giving free escape to the line in your hand...

  • Thats the way to do it. All iko lessons do teach you this way for self rescue and once you try it you will know it works.

Also you do not need a rescue boat, you can go back to shore (although not exactly where you started from!!) by using your kite as a sail (he mentions it on the video but he does not clarify how).

    Good video!

  • the other way is to swim do you want to hear about that?he mentioned that you should wind your lines! just imagine the propeller of the rescue boat getting tangled in your lines ,you turn into fish bate in no time

  • How dumb is that. This guys explanation of a "Self Rescue" involves how to get on a motor boat. Sorry, no boats comin' to get you in most situations.
