On 08/08/07 Maluia-WCMS@hotmail.com received an unsolicited e-mail from Rodney Iwasaki of the Hawaii Dept. of Education (2). In the e-mail Mr. Iwasaki did not identify his position in the D.O.E but asseverated that his correspondence represented the Department of Education's response addressing Maluia-WCMS concerns. In an effort to provide explanation of what "has occurred to ensure that students and staff will return to a safe environment at Waimea Canyon Middle School and did Syngenta break the agreement;" Mr. Iwasaki has provided evidence of a continued pattern of complicit complacency that has been endmeic of state agency anemic response to our concerns.

  • You're saying that if pesticides being applied on a field adjacent schools are poisoning children, parents should remove their children from the school? Now that's idiot logic! I suggest you read the Pesticide 101 link from our blog, compare the reported symptoms with the known sprayed pesticides, and then go see a doctor about your ass revolving around your head. Clean air is a constitutional right (Clean Air Act).

  • Congrats on your small victory. Any news about more spraying now that it's 2009? I'm just a part-time visitor in Waimea, but it's a beautiful place and i wish it was pesticide free. this is an outrage, there is no excuse for spraying toxic chemicals near anyone, especially children.

  • I agree from the mainland... this is corporate terrorism! Agri-business spraying crops with pesticides... disgraceful. We on the mainland think of Hawaii as being pure. Agri-business has spoiled you, too. I have cancer and know it was caused by pesticides my dad used on our farm. I will certainly continue my fight against misuse, overuse and over-spray of pesticides and will keep the kids in my thoughts and prayers along the way.

  • Please join us at Waimea Neighborhood Center May 15th ,2008 @ 7-9 to discuss recent unexplained illnesses at Westside schools and neighborhoods. This will be an informational meeting to share experiences and plan ways to monitor community health.

  • I used to work for Pioneer but quit because I was affected by certain herbicides. On the day that Kekaha School and St. Theresa's were affected, many in our neighborhood including myself got sick after smelling the chemicals. I've lived in my home for over 40 years, and my family for over a hundred years, your logic would have me move out too? It don't work that way. Dupont, the parent company of Pioneer, is notorious for its lack of concern for people and the environment, all for money.

  • anyone that believes that spraying poison is in anyway a positive thing should be forcefully banished from kauai. this issue is, IMHO, one of the worst things happening on kauai. herbicide spraying on roadsides is bad enough and should be protested, but poisoning our kids is cause for serious rebellion! if some other country sprayed poison at our kids, they would call it an act of terrorism and biological warfare. but since it's an american corporation, its called good business. WTF?!

  • He's not looking for an investigation, because he's already fixed in his mind the cause. Sort alike how they used to think the sun revolves around the earth. If he's so concerned, why does he keep his child there? Idiot logic at work.
