The Electric Awakening

Columbia University, New York City, April 23, 1968, eight days before Martin Luther King's assassination.

The Student Afro Society, and the Students for a Democratic Society started a revolt and took over several University buidlings on the Columbia campus in New York City.

Modern day Democrats were being born and it was the beginning of the end. Listening to the rhetoric of these would be rebels, one can't help but hear the same type of defeatist, progressive mantra in the so called peace activists of today, such as Cindy Sheehan.

The Electric Awakening is a record, and a response. Archival footage of the events, with sub-titled commentary by jJack Midknight.

jJack uses the resources of Creative Commons Public Domain footage to create a brand new work of art from existing film(s) from the past, bringing it alive in a completely different way, and for completely different reasons than those for which the original works were created.

  • Interesting old footage on the Columbia U. uprising. This event is really what made SDS and the student "movement" during the '60s more violent.

The black students were protesting against the new gym because it was being built on Harlem land and black people were being "relocated". The black students had more of a legit reason to protest than others.

  • You're welcome, George.

  • what is wrong with people standing up for what they believe in? A simple power struggle, good on em, better than living your life as a lap dog, surely?
