There's an optimized product based on this idea.
Works great, especialy on ice.

I doubt this will last very long. Tire chains are not suppose to be tight because they will break a link.
I though a good use for old tires would be to slice them up and make chains out of them.

@pukaman2000 well to answer your question . they work extremely good runs like it on rails . very little to no sliding off to the side . and yes tire chans are supposed to be a little loose not a lot . but in this case they have to be tight so they stay on the tire . no they have not broken at all this is the second winter and work mint . also these are not old tires when i installed the chains on them they were brand new .

@mdr8088 yes it does work great . you might want to use motorcycle chain . and it does wear out the center of your tire
