Images of the Chinese "Varyag" the former incomplete USSR aircraft carrying heavy destroyer making its way on its 2nd sea trial as photographed at high speed on 8 December 2011 by the American image provider DigitalGlobe Inc's polar-orbiting high resolution "Quick Bird" commercial Earth observation satellite. This amazing image was recorded from a height of 280 miles (450 kilometers) as the Varyag was about 62 miles (100 kilometers) south-southeast of China's major naval shipyard at Dalian, China The Chinese government , along with several other countries, claim that the "South China Sea" which is believed to be an undeveloped major source of oil and natural gas, belongs to them. It is believed that China, with the complete retro-modification of the Varyag, and its task force, may use it to intimidate many smaller countries in the area...including Australia. The Varyag is expected to be equipped with China's J-15 carrier-based jet fighters, perhaps sometime in late 2012. Satellite images of the Varyag are courtesy of DigitalGlobe Inc. Notice the initial satellite image and how DigitalGlobe's analyst was able to pick out the Varyag from all the cloud cover. An amazing job. Given the clarity of the image, it does not yet show that the ship has been equipped with aircraft arresting cables strung across her deck. (davidmyhra@gmail.com).

@IDiggSocialMedia na, Ukraine was building this carrier at the time and was the shipyard of USSR and when USSR broke up, Russia tried to block Ukraine which became an independent country from selling it to China, but Ukraine was super poor, so they eventually sold it to China.

I remember back in the late 1990's, Russia was stuggling with thier transformation so thier military began to sale thier weapons to other nations to create revenue for thier country! China was one of those 58 or so countries they sold the weapons to and that aircraft carrier was one such weapons system!
