The Colourist Ramie Leahy and filmmaker Kevin Hughes recently teamed up to capture the landscape of Kilkenny City in a unique way. Over the last while it was possible to see them in the streets of the city as Ramie lashed into the paint in his free and vibrant style as Kevin filmed him with a his camera.
Ramie, using the clear Perspex went around the city painting what he saw though this floating window. Ramie normally used to painting on canvas commented, "It was like painting on air" and from this emerged the title of his new exhibition of works being held in Langtons opening on the 4th of August and running to the end fo the arts festival.
"Painting on a material like glass has many challenges" he said, for instance your medium seems to float in front of you, like a large bubble and as you apply the colours they change in dramatic ways depending on the light and mood of the day. I think this approach to painting this particular series of landscapes has allowed me to interact and observe Kilkenny in a new light and has being very exciting and surprising."
