  • Awesome!

    What year was that?

  • Thanks and the video was filmed in 1985.

  • Well done, Im an Newtonian rail fan and I think that this is 1st Class.

I was 9 when this was made, what a contrast to todays layout.

  • Thanks and yes the layout has seen a major change over the years.

  • I live in Teignmouth and it looks so much different! Some pretty good footage 5*!

  • What an amazing down platform at Teignmouth - such a shame that it's in such a state now....

  • Originally I was slarty 252 and have posted but this takes me back every time I watch it, Pit you haven't got the western end of the station (Torbay /Plymouth Line) I remember going to Paignton every other sunday and watching Invincible and Ark Royal pull in Platform 2 then run around, the Diesel smell mixed with fish and chips from the Chippy in the square where there was a massive propeller...yum, yum!

  • That was brilliant!! I was 14 when this was filmed, and remember watching them pass at Red Rock (Bishopsteignton). Great, yet sad to see how Newton has changed. If only it was still like this now...

    Thanbks for posting

  • Both mechanical signal boxes were decomissioned in March 1987. Between them, they boasted 359 mechanical levers, East Box being the largest operatinal in the UK for some time.

  • Newton Abbot was almost like a GWR signalling museum back then! What a shame the joint railway compainies never got to keep boththeir routes through devon, I've a feeling Newton Abbot would be far more busy and imprtant than it is today...just another green panel in a PSB...

  • mischief670-

1985-i think the coaching stock and locomotive liveries give the period away!

i was down there for the first time in 86 to penzance from manchester-a exciting 8 hrs travelling

  • mischief670-

by the way!, 50 022 was my first ever spotted 50. i clocked it in the down bay platform at warrington BQ in mid 75.

  • mischief670-

it could be said that the devon banks and coast are never the same without the cl 52 westerns for diesel fans, much the same

without the manor class steam loco,s

for steam fans....! such a beautiful meandering strech of railway!

  • mischief670-

such a high quality video!,i love the cl50s

we built em up here in the n/west at the

vulcan foundry and leased em to british rail., the western region inherited them as we got the al7s in the mid 70s for the eletric scots....! both the loco and the scenery do justice to each other!

  • yeah you can see semaphores next to brunel trading estate. i got into trains way too late!
