Irina: Chernobyl Heart Child

This series of "Chernobyl Heart Child" films introduces just a few children whose lives were saved by Chernobyl Children's Project International's cardiac surgery program.

CCPI sends volunteer surgical teams to Belarus and Ukraine to operate on children with life threatening genetic heart conditions. Without surgery, these children -- deemed "inoperable" in their own country -- would die.

Surgical teams train their local peers, so that they can improve their skills and save young lives year round.
