  • A great demo, but they should never write "C64 is shit". If they think so, let them make a sprite where each pixel is in a different colour on Spectrum. Each machine has different merits and restrictions.

  • @Abrimaal Finally someone who understands ^^

On a sidenote: modern incarnations of the Pentagon don't have this limitation anymore.

  • @1337Shockwav3 I have seen "The Link" with the dragon pic, I don't know the architecture of Pentagon SL, but I think there must be a second Z80 or a different chip to render the graphics. I have read that they plan to increase the colour palette to 4096. With the second soundchip and improved graphics it would be a very good machine, but we remember SAM Coupe with 128 colours, 6 channel sound, 512 kB RAM, released in 1990 - too late! If it was in 1986 instead ZX 128 it would be a serious danger

  • @Abrimaal I actually have a Pentagon SL, which doesn't have a second Z80 just a severly enhanced ULA clone, which is responsible for the lack of the color clash. Most effects in "The Link" are calculated on the "General Sound" (basically another ZX with 20MHz and 4MB RAM, but no video) tho. SAA1099 sound (from the Sam Coupe) and 4096 colors are already possible since early 2010.

But yeah, those machines are not exactly a ZX Spectrum or a Sam Coupe anymore ;)

  • First time shown on CAFe99! 1st place.

  • @Shockwav3 In what configuration do you run this demo? I have it as a .tap file and it doesn't run in ZX128 nor Pentagon 128. In 128 USR 0 it starts from the 3 jumping circles.

  • for Atari ST, but in 1990 none of the commercial software companies was interested in this machine and there are just a few games and some more demos. My small input in the ZX improvement is implementing the C64 palette and two own pallettes with 15 different colours (black + 14 different, not black + 2x7 in two brightness levels), tested in many games and demos for ZX Spin emulator, see my profile for details.

  • crap demo! fil rulz.

  • Uploaded one year ago and I missed it? How could I? :) Cool stuff, but what I liked the most was the digitized video.
