CNN: Navy laying off many sailors

CNNs Chris Lawrence reported that the military is limiting reenlistments during tough economic times. More sailors want to stay in the Navy than ever before at the same time Congress is cutting its numbers. It means tough a new re-enlistment policy that offer advancement to some and end the careers of thousands of others, reported Lawrence.

When they told me I couldnt re-enlist, it was like a kick in the face, Airman Amanda Siren told Lawrence. Siren said that her family wanted her to stay in the Navy so I dont get laid off as a civilian but the Navy is laying me off as well.

@123nypd The Marine Corps is a much smaller branch and is making much greater cuts than the Navy. She'd probably have better luck joining the Army, but if you were refused reenlistment for any branch, you'll have a tough time getting a prior service waiver to get back into the military.

What a load of shit, they are kicking out people who are trained and experienced while still pushing boots. I spent 8 damn years was a second class, and my PTS was never submitted by my command. I submitted it twice, had copies of both, no record of them ever leaving my command. 8 months out from my EAOS I am told I am not eligible for re-enlistment due to failure to submit PTS. Bunch of shit.

Just because someone is getting let go doesn't mean they are a shitbag! One of the guys I work with got safety pro of the year,2 NAM's, never got in trouble was on our secret squirrel team and is still getting the boot. You never know who is going to make the cut with this stupid PTS and ERB bullshit. So count every say as lucky and quit bad mouthing all these people.

I think the coast guard should be making cuts, if not in people then in pay. They get the same salary with higher special pay as military members who actually make a sacrifice to serve their country.
