Welcome me Hearties! This be the class intro. fer the assembly an' paintin' of the new high seas fantasy naval game: DREADFLEET.

The class will be geared more towards total beginners but if you're already a miniatures painter it will also be fun for you to join in as well as we form a mini community while working on the game. The game itself presents a unique opportunity to teach many techniques with all of the various ships, so I think this will be a great place for anyone to get their feet wet and at the same time finish a game with quality in mind.

Dreadfleet looks daunting and promises to be an involved, advanced system for the average board-gamer-non-miniatures-painter to jump into, but I promise to help you along the way to battle with an end result you can be proud of. If you have two planks and a passion, join me while we set sail on this painting adventure!

No need to sign up or even subscribe. Just find my video channel and click to watch when I post. Questions and comments always welcome and encouraged, and with every class (video) you may also feel free to show me your work and I'll be happy to help you through any issues...and you can also bounce ideas off of other painters as we work together. I choose YouTube over UStream as my format so everyone can work at their own pace without having to be around for a live stream time (plus my live cam sucks compared to my standard cam).

  • I'm surprised by all the negative reviews this game is getting lately. I have my game and have played a few games. I enjoyed the game, love the looks, the maneuvering the CHAOS!!!! The one thing I notice everyone harping upon is the Fate cards. For all those "It's too easy to win by a lucky draw." I say this, if you hate a specific card, don't use it. The game is all about dealing with the unexpected. It's no competition game, so get out of that play to win mentality and play for the chaos.

  • @Rexamillion90: All rules are meant to be broken...I agree with you Rex. If you get any game and you don't like something, it's not written in stone...change it and make a house rule. Draw less fate cards or none at all. I too rather like the chaos of the draw though. It's kinda refreshing.

  • This sounds amazing! I was struggling to decide if I should get this game or not. I don't have much experience painting anything besides some small minis for fun a few years back. This tutorial sounds EXACTLY like the sort of guidance I was looking for. Thanks for doing this! Now, off to order before it's too late!

  • @cheddarlimbo: Hopefully it will shed light on some things. I plan to keep it pretty simple for beginners but have the turnout be awesome in the end.

  • Awesome, I'm in! I have a minimum of experience but I bought Dreedfleet and this is exactly how I was hoping to paint them, with an experienced painter.

  • @bdsperling: I can't wait to get it in hand myself and I'm sure this project is going to be a challenge but one I think we can all do just fine taking it step by step and not getting too ahead of ourselves, lol...as I tend to do. The plan right now is to start with terrain and work up to the ships.

  • I just got this game for Christmas. I painted a lot of GW stuff and eventually gave it up. Space hulk sucked me back in and when I saw this I knew it was going to be the same scenario. I'm a sucker for a game that's complete in the box. I thought your video was well presented and enjoyed your dogs antics. I'll be watching.

  • I've ordered my copy. I think the game can be played without actually painting the pieces but for those that want pretty things, painting is a must. I don't know what the minis are like though so I can't comment on anything about it just yet :)

  • @SPBTooL: This can be a big problem depending on the brand of paint too. I'll have to talk more about this besides in my materials video, thanks for the suggestion.

  • @Tartersauce101: I'm shocked! Most pugs don't have as long a nose as she does and make noises way worse! My vet says she's actually one of the better breathers. These ships are going to be new for almost everyone, I think, but basic principles will still apply. In looking at the sprues, drybrushing will be great for the bases and terrain (although I personally hate to drybrush I will cover that in my videos). Thanks for staying tuned!

  • Awesome, I will definitely need all the help painting these ships as I can get!!
