Chris Hedges, author of Death of the Liberal Class, talking with Ethical Culture Society of NY Leader Joe Chuman about how {blurb from publisher, The Nation: } "for decades the liberal class defended all Americans against the worst excesses of power. But the pillars of this class — the press, the universities, trade unions, the Democrats, and the liberal church — have collapsed. In its absence the needs of the poor, the working class, and even the middle class no longer have a champion. Death of the Liberal Class takes an excoriating look at the liberals who have abdicated responsibility and formulates a clarion call for reform." Chris gets personal, like with his decision to leave the NY Times, another about his prep school scholarship that enabled him to behold the advantage rich kids have over particularly the poor, and tells stories he's told earlier, in talks on this JoeFriendy Channel, the most memorable his revenge for repeatedly being falsely called "faggot." • Theologians and clergy stand in exactly the same relation to testable knowledge, to being a real Doctor, that Chiropracters do to medicine-very far away. Any overlap is purely coincidental.

  • So all PhDs are equally tough to get, even at the same university? All graduate schools equally tough to get into-again, even at the same university? All of these PhDs provide you with careers paying the same? Are you on drugs? Even by their own admissions, even at elite universities like Yale and Harvard, and by the Divinity Schools' own admissions, their standards of admission are lower than their peers' in Business/MBA, Law/Juris Doctor and Medicine/MD programs.

  • GREAT UPLOAD and an interview - thanks!

  • "Doctor" West isn't a physician. Anyone calling himself "Doctor" who isn't a physician or at least a dentist is probably some theologian or "educator" trying to get taken seriously. Ridiculous and pitiful. Hedges, a seminary graduate, is ipso facto an idiot. Paranoia, self-absorbtion and self-satisfaction are religion's trademarks. I am glad religion is shrinking away. Whenever a church closes, I'm happy.

  • what leads to greatness, in the christian religion according to brother Dr. Cornel West, is ur service to others. one might call that socialism

  • cknite42, I don't trust Mike Dooley, aka, Tut, for that exact reason.

It just goes to show you that decisions, supposedly made by the Chairman of the Fed, are actually made by a committee of Fed governors (bankers). The Chairman is only the spokesperson/press secretary. But the public mind repels the thought over and over again. This boggles my mind.

  • @MrFaisel34 That's probably what he meant. It was actually really funny when he said it.

I don't know much about Ayn Rand's philosophy, but the video could be referring to her actual writing. I took it as though they thought of her writing more akin to Dan Brown than Ernest Hemingway.
