110 Billion rupees is set apart to develop the road network in the Northern Province.
The Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force is making a vital contribution to this development effort at the behest of the President. Its Chief and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa said 1,250 kilometres will be developed. At a recent discussion, he said the Cabinet nod had been received for this programme.
Progress achieved so far under the Uthuru Wasanthaya 180-day accelerated development programme was dealt at length at this meeting. 101 machinery worth 2353 million rupees imported from China have been diverted for the development work. The Sri Lanka Army Engineering unit is involved in this massive development task. Mr. Rajapaksa instructed the relevant officials to reconstruct large tanks to store water needed to upgrade agricultural activities. Development activities related to Education, Fisheries and Irrigation were also broached at this meeting. Minister Risath Bathiyudeen, Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri, Secretary to the Nation Building Ministry W.K.K. Kumarasiri, Secretary to the Highways Ministry Wasantha Karannagoda, District Secretaries and Defence Chiefs joined in this meeting.
