    Sorry, the truth is ithe song WAS NOT big before "That 70's Show"...it's a classic song on a classic album that sold poorly and had no hit singles....

    to clarify any misunderstandings o misconceptions, here is the That 70's Show theme facts. The actual Big Star song is not used at all. The first season used a version sung by a guy named Todd Griffin. The lyrics and basic lay down are the same but with some mods. A Cheap Trick cover is used from S2 forwad, and they added the "we're all alright" as an homage to their own song "Surrender". Chilton gets $70 per syndicated episode for royalties on the song for all episodes.

    another one of those bands/albums that i was supposed to love,so 2 be cool i bought it, and i was very dissapointed...music critics/nerdy hacks and peter buck liked it, so i guess its cool ...Cheap Trick BLOWS Big Star away in every way...big star sounds like raspberries b sides to me... anyone who thinks this couldve been one of the greatest singles ever, are you serious? better than motown? the beatles? the beach boys? a million great 70s pop songs? sorry, dont mean to offend but i dont get it
