to clarify any misunderstandings o misconceptions, here is the That 70's Show theme facts. The actual Big Star song is not used at all. The first season used a version sung by a guy named Todd Griffin. The lyrics and basic lay down are the same but with some mods. A Cheap Trick cover is used from S2 forwad, and they added the "we're all alright" as an homage to their own song "Surrender". Chilton gets $70 per syndicated episode for royalties on the song for all episodes.

@MissKilljoy16 Jeez, I thought that was Ashton Kutcher on lead vocals. Seriously, Cheap Trick was a (very good) band that was clearly influenced by Big Star, who were real pioneers in power pop.
