A video tribute to one of Oregon's most outstanding prep track athletes, Mark Bailey's Running Tribute is full of pictures and sounds from this state's glory years of track and field...when Steve Prefontaine graced the track in Eugene, Mark Bailey set the pace in Roseburg, Oregon as a star middle distance runner who became State Champion, finished in the top FIVE in the nation in his age group, and dominated the state's prep 880 for three straight years beginning in 1973. Explore what it took to succeed for one of Oregon's premier runners on his rise to the top and the true depth of character he displayed along the way.

  • why is there a pic of dave wottel

  • Coach Dave Eden compares Mark's kick to Wottle's. Wottle is, of course, USA's Gold Medal winner in the 800-meters during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

  • Did he stop running after 10th grade? I see some good times but what happens after that?

  • Hello again,

Mark was a state champ in the 800m his Junior year and runner-up as a Senior. He went to OSU on a track scholarship under Bernie Wagner.

  • so tell me.....what ever happened to him?

  • Sailshane,

Mark is living in Seattle with his wife and three boys. He still runs and is quite fit. He saw this video for the first time at his 50th birthday party we threw for him. Needless to say it brought back some strong memories and emotions. He still keeps in touch with coaches Dave Eden and Al Copeland...both are the voices you hear in the video.

    Thanks for asking.

    Larry Bailey
