Police Use Tear Gas on Tehran Protesters

Video posted on the Internet as being recorded on Sunday, shows Iranian riot police using tear gas to disperse opposition protesters. Government restrictions on foreign media correspondents have not deterred citizen journalists from getting the news out to the rest of the world.
After more than a week of unprecedented opposition protests in Iran, popular defiance against the leadership of the Islamic Republic continues.

Video posted on the Internet on Sunday shows protesters marching down a street.

Some of them are wearing the green of defeated moderate presidential candidate Mirhossein Mousavi.

The marchers are confronted by a line of police in riot gear.

The pictures - posted as having been recorded on Sunday, probably with a mobile phone - show some people taking shelter in a building, as tear gas is used on the crowd.

Government restrictions prevent foreign media correspondents from covering the demonstrations live, and there are no accurate reports of injuries and arrests.

In its determination to crack down hard on demonstrators, the Iranian regime was instrumental in the deaths of at least 10 people on Saturday. Authorities are dismissing the protesters as "terrorists" and rioters.

The daughter of former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was reportedly detained during an opposition rally in Tehran on Saturday.

A disputed June 12 election, which returned to power hardline anti-Western President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has sparked the most violent unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution which ousted the U.S.-backed shah.
