Short video of the wood I use to load the heater and how I feed it so that it runs most efficiently.

  • you may be right ... I'll have to look into that ... tho many of the cooking rocket stoves have their wood horizontally and the gasses are pyrolized in the "elbow" portion and in the heat rizer. I have found that this heater produces very little smoke, even on cold days, when you'd expect to see at least condensation. I have a CO detector within about four feet ( less, actually ... between two and three, I think ) and no CO emmissions either. Seems to be pyrolizing efficiently

  • When we first used the heater, we loaded it every 1/2 hour ... but at that time, we were also burning it "wide open", as shown in the video. Currently, we lay a large cylinder "brick" across the opening, closing it almost completely off but leaving about a half inch of opening thru which air can enter the heater. In doing so, we've cut back to feeding the heater about every hour to hour and a half. By reducing air intake, we've noticed that the heat stored in the brick GOES UP.

  • I think he missed the principle of rocket heater. There is no need to push the fuel into he chamber as the fire will be drawn sideway by the up draft. Also, if he pushes the fuel into the chamber, there is a risk of obstruction building up , thus reducing the efficiency further.

Also, the point in using RMH is not to create heat efficiently ONLY. It is to trap the heat also. Hence, most people build it inside the house instead of a shed.

  • pyrolisis is the most efficient when there is optimal oxygen feed. That is not your problem here. You can`t feed every hour or so, and you`ll burn a hell lot of wood. You are producing now a lot more heat than you can catch and transfer to system

  • you could easily redo your feedhole. Point is to have your wood 45` from above sliding to burn down. You could reduce air intake by fulfilling (jamming) the feedhole with a fuel. TY 4 vid

  • Isn't the point to use the feeding area for the burning and the burn tube in order to burn off the gas from the pyrolizing wood not to have wood in the burn tube itself?

  • How often do you have to load and how much wood do you burn in a year ? (compared to a "regular" wood stove)
