What was it that brought about the Nicene Creed, and other later creeds and synods?

Why did the Early Christians make a major theme so divisive and destructive to Christian unity? How did the Emperor of pagan Rome get the power to appoint bishops for the church? What were the doctrines as well as the reasons for this fascinating occurrence in Early Christianity?

  • Professor - thank you for all of your videos! As a member of the church, and also a student of the Zohar I am thoroughly enjoying the insights and commentaries. I have a question for you? Do you know why we celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday instead of Saturday? I can't find anything in the scriptures where we were told to change the day that we make the connection to the upper worlds.

  • From what I understand (I always need to improve, I assure you), it comes because it was revelaed to Joseph Smith. It's not the day that is important, but the actual worship that occurs.

  • Lol....... well, O.K., whatever. I suppose since the creeds were never given via revelation that I don't put all that much authority onto them.

I also think you have some all right stuff, and am looking forward to learning more from your perspective, as I share more of mine. Ah, the internet is a blast isn't it?!

And there is most definitely a break in the line, but then, ya gotta read part of the history you folks don't seem to like much, so you neglect that also. We all have weaknesses.

    More on Historical Christianity.

  • I do sincerely hope you have more than what little I have been able to find on your site. You rate me a mere 3 stars compared to your materials? Is that actually fair? I look forward to getting the hang of the YouTube so we can discuss a lot of these matters.

  • The Nicene Creed was adopted in the face of the Arian controversy. Arius, a Libyan preacher, had declared that although Jesus Christ was divine, God had actually "created him", and there was a time when he was not. This made Jesus "less than the Father" and contradicted the doctrine of the Trinity.

This is how I can see why Mormons do not agree with it.

  • Most of the LDS apologists that I encounter get 1 star, only because I can't leave them 0 stars. And you're complaining about 3 stars?

I think you had some alright stuff.

But you neglected the entire lineage of non-Roman Catholic related Christian creeds.

This is deliberate and happens often with LDS apologists. Because show a line of non-Roman Catholic Christianity from now to the first church, just doesn't jive with the COMPLETE apostasy theory.

    It's actually very deceitful.
