Rod Crosby " Light On The Horizon "

Without a doubt, the easiest song that has ever come to me. That can be attributed to the person it was dedicated to reaching out and putting the pen to the paper. In November 2008, I lost an extremely close friend of mine to a small, private plane crash over the Gulf of Mexico. I had never heard silence the way I did when I found out he had gone missing. That silence is so profound it makes your ears ring as though you've fired a shotgun repeatedly without earplugs. The weeks following the incident left me riddled about life and in bed crawled up into a ball, not wanting any form of communication. I could only imagine how his family felt, whom I also happened to know from my college years. When it was time, I picked up the guitar and wrote what I thought was worthy of a life that was one of a kind. At his service, his mother Pandora, whom Zach loved with all his heart, had the courage to share the photograph she had taken on her iPhone of the horizon from their oceanfront home in the Florida panhandle. Although that day was relatively dark and overcast, the brightest of lights had shone just above the horizon line and below the clouds, from the exact direction in which the plane had gone down. As I spoke to my own mother over the Thanksgiving holidays 2010, I described this phenomenon as I told her about my ambition to write a song for my dear friend in the upcoming demo. The words "there was this GREAT light on the horizon" escaped my mouth, and hence, the song was born. Zachary Blain Schlitt will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
