With three members of KC's 4 x 400m team suffering from injuries, many doubted whether KC could do enough to prevent a strong Calabar 4 x 400m team from exceeding the 4.5 lead KC had going into the last event (the 4 x 400m final) of Champs 2009. KC's captain Kieron Stewart and quarter miler Akino Ming were out due to injuries so they used Donohue Williams (a middle distance runner), Rolando Berch (suffering from a hamstring injury), Javon Campbell (a first year class 2 athlete who was unable to make the 400m final) and Andre Peart (co-captain of the KC team). Based on the points system for relays, KC had to finish at least two places behind Calabar to secure the victory ... and they did just that.

  • As a KCOB residing in NY i must say it brings me great pleasure to see KC as champions again. It also brings back memories of attending champs in the 80's.Many of us back then would be so sad for days if we came 2nd overall. Respect to Russell, the coach, whom I was a classmate of in 6B Arts. I remember in '85 champs you were injured and doubtful to perform. However, you showed the never-say-die attitude and went on to win the pole vault competition. Best of luck KC in future champs.FORTIS 4eva!
