• Somewhere I read that the basic rule in semantics is, "The map is not the territory".

    Tx 4 posting.

  • My favourite artist, by far his most famous work. Is its usual title The Betrayal of Images is by him or was added later? The mind does not distinguish between image and reality, hence our queasy uneasiness at videos of roller coasters or our ability to play Flight Simulator. Magritte went to a lot of trouble to remind us that the image (and in other works, the name) is not the object. "Pipe" is also not a pipe-try stuffing tobacco into a word, any more than into the painted image!

  • Hi Don. Very interesting stuff there. There is a pipe, only if the viewer wishes to see a pipe. Also they could only see the outer space around the pipe, then the picture would become some thing entirely differenet..

I to love Magrittes' art,his painting of the painting on the easel in front of a window, showing the scene seen from that window is just amazing, you see the scene through the painting,is it there or not.?

I look forward to some more of your videos.
