Cardinals were probably the most frequent visitors to the feeder. Here is some footage of them. They came early and left late AND they didn't like Blue Jays

  • i need some help. i had a ton of junkos but they eat of the ground so i put my feeder on the ground to see wat they would do. they ate from it and a cardnal cam when i looked out the window a saw a cardnal.obviously i scared it and i moved my bird feeder back to it's hook but i havent seen a cardnal sience how do i attract them again?

  • 1st of all - congratulations on the juncos. I've always enjoyed seeing them at the feeder. Their numbers seem to be on the increase. Now, in regards to the cardinal. It might be a matter of just waiting - they know that there is feeder at your place and may simply try again when it's less crowded. And as I mention in the video - cardinals can come well before sunrise and well after sunset. I like to offer a really good mix of seed with some nuts mixed in. Thanks 4 ur question

  • I love Cardinals, you mention that your cardinals come late, yes. The cardinal is the only bird that feeds after dark, thats how it goes in my backyard. I have that same feeder of your too!

  • Cool! That's interesting that you have noticed cardinals eating late too. Good choice of feeder - works well for me and sounds like it works well for you too!

  • I only get sparrows and blue jays at my feeder... *sigh* I'd love to get some cardinals and chickadees.

  • I try to put in a good mix of seed in order to get the greatest variety of birds. I've also found that suet feeders are an inexpensive way to attract birds as well

  • hey i just bought a bird feeder the other day(2 days ago i think) and so far i haven't had any birds on it yet. we have some finch feeders on the other side of the house that get tons of birds every day. how long will it take for my feeder to be filled with birds like our finch feeders?

  • Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. =D

  • "Red Birds" are one of my favs, especially the hen. Your so lucky to see the fledglings. Great to see, a first for me, and I've been watching these members of the finch family for many years.
