Jimmie Johnston achieved history at the end of this year's NASCAR season, tying Cale Yarborough's record of three consecutive NASCAR season cup championships... and he's not anywhere near done. Johnson ran a fairly conservative last race of the season at the Ford 400, coming in fifteenth place... which was more than enough to award him enough points to raise the Sprint Cup over his head as the season champ in total points for the the third straight year. Chad Knaus, his often suspended crew chief, also made history when he became the first pit boss ever to win three straight cup titles, and he did it this year without getting into trouble. Johnson drove a Chevorlet which he and Knaus argue was good enough for them to win the race... if the season cup championship wasn't on the line. Johnson led for six laps of the race, giving him five bonus points, before he eased off and drove conservatively enough to finish with a cup title. Johnson and Knaus were ecstatic about the win, but they're not content with just a record tying three titles in a row. A celebrating Knaus told reporters. “We want four. Why not? That's why we're here. We think with the team that we've got, the resources that we've got with Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet behind us, we can definitely go and bid for four championships in a row.” The ultra competitive and hard working Knaus added "Why wouldn't we? Give me a reason why not to. That's the mentality we've got to have." It looks like a lot of people are going to be chasing Jimmie Johnson when the 2009 NASCAR season begins.
