2nd day @SantaRosa. Because we lacked preparation yesterday, we made sure to get enough warm up in before our run. However, I noticed after our run started that Ken was extremely nervous. I felt his anxiety while running towards the jump following the tunnel. We made it to the weave poles but then Ken popped out at the second weave pole. After the poles, I sent him to the next jump but he would not go. It seemed like he had separation anxiety and he just didn't seem to want to leave my side.
Unlike yesterday, he was physically ready but perhaps not mentally. How do you prepare a dog to be ready mentally for a run?? Certain amout of tension is necessary for a good performance but today was too much for him. What could I have done to better prepare him for the trial? I will need to think about this. We had a great trial last week in L.A. so we had high expectations coming into this weekend. I feel a bit of a disapointment with our performance this weekend. I am disapointed not about Ken but about our performance as a team. Need to fix things and prepare for our last trial of the year coming up in two weeks!
