I realized that the Family Guy theme has a really awesome chord progression, and I thought it would sound good as a barbershop quartet. This is my own arrangement. This is also me singing; four parts spliced together on Audacity.

No...doing that will actually make it sound like an alien. That's the only way to describe it. The "barbershop effect," as you put it, is based on minimizing the spacing between the four parts, while still following the basic music theory rules of four-part writing.
