I bearly remembered this intro (I was born in 1986), but If my memory serves me right, "The Six o'clock news hour" uses an intro similar to one featured in "The World Tonight".....I remembered hearing that instance back in 1992/1993.

The News At Noon music cut usually meant (at least to me as a young child) that the cartoons etc. were done. Listen closely at 0:11 - you can hear the tape starting up for The World Tonight intro.
