Riding on a cup of coffee. As in the caffeine is carrying him. Thats why his legs are unstable and shaking.

What do you mean that it doesn't make any sense? Writing on a cup of coffee makes less sense. Why would you write on a cup of coffee, ponder upon this for a moment, please. "Running on a cup of coffee" is a saying. For example, if you've been up all night, and you drank coffee to stay up, someone asks you, "How did you sleep?" You would respond with, "I'm running on a cup of coffee" implying that you've been up all night and that is what is keeping you awake at the moment

@Jodyholt902 I don't think it's literally writing ON the cup. it's that he's running on the caffeine from a cup of coffee and using that as fuel to write.

@BlueOctoberNeonTrees You can't mark sharpie on a coffee places cup. He has a waitress, so it's obviously not his cup. Most likely either styrofoam of cardboard.

However, I noticed a few incorrect lines in your lyrics...
The first line is actually "Brownie and a cup of coffee," not "Writing on a cup of coffee."
Line 12 is "All the club-scene boys for you," not "All the clumsy boys for you."
