Interesting use for a broken e-reader screen. As expected even if the backplane is fried the front e-paper sheet still works fine if the glass is carefully peeled off from the front plastic.
Its sensitive to moisture so if not using it for a while put it in a sealed case with silica gel.
If it doesen't work upon removal heat to 50C in a fan oven for an hour and it should recover.

this is with three 9Vs in series and connecting to the front ITO layer and rear elastomer with a finger.
polarity of power determines W/B or B/W switch.

next project is a homemade backplane using PCB material carefully etched using lasers and double developed (leaving the resist intact except where the pixels are to be) then electroplated to create "bumps" in the copper.

  • @conundrum2007 I'm currently planning the same project as you - making the pcbs for the eink display- did you do it yet? How did it turn out?

  • Neat :)

Hope you find some use for it :)
