I started heating with the woodstove this year. I bought a chainsaw and took at a huge pile of wood from a tree that was hit by lightning a few years back and collapsed this autumn. The smaller branches worked great, but I wasn't sure how to reduce the fat branches... until I saw Mike's how-to instructional video on the topic.

Amazing fact: freshly split poplar has an appealing aroma reminiscent of licorice.

2011 Update: This video was recorded in 2007 and is now almost four years old. It was posted as a response to a wood chopping video a guy named Mike posted in 2007. The first stroke you see in the video is the first time in my life I tried to split wood with an axe. Then, by 1:30 I finally managed to split a branch after several poor strokes. All the messages telling me how much I suck and how I am doing it wrong are misguided. Perhaps some people are just watching the first 30 seconds and ignoring the captions and date. Of course I sucked back then, that is the point of videos showing your first try at something. There are quite a few wood splitting videos on youtube. Not all of them are meant to be instructional videos illustrating known best practices to be used in industrial training classes. It's even possible that some of the folks criticizing this video also did poorly the first half dozen strokes they ever tried in their life as well.

  • Hay i am an arkansas wood spliting man here.I use a spliting maw it looks like an axe but is thin then gets thicker than an axe.You should buy one cause they have more power than an axe but they are a little heavier than one.But will split when axe can't.

  • Well done!!! :))))

    Great vid!

  • @nonoctave While we may never agree on many things, I struggle to find the truth, and will always respect an honest man, I thank you for yours.

  • @bufordcrabtree This is a wood splitting video, not a video treatise on government.

As far as illegal immigration goes, it has been a big problem. Illegal immigrants smell bad, are obese, lazy, ignorant, stupid, pollute heavily, and are involved in drugs. It started in 1492 and has gotten progressively worse each year since the smelly genocidal mentally ill illegal aliens arrived on the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. I agree they should all be returned to Europe if that is possible.

  • @nonoctave I commented on your channel was because you replied to my comment on TrutherGirls suggesting I was in favor of a national identity card. English is the primary language taught in this nation. It is also the primary language that you speak and this is the nation in which you live. Apparently you have no particular affinity towards your nation. I don't recall advocating a papers please totalitarian state but you have offered no alternative solution to illegal immigration. Out of chars.

  • @bufordcrabtree What war was that?

You start in complaining about my wood splitting technique. Then you switch gears and complain that you couldn't understand the captions because they were in English, strange since you request this in English. I offer to help you out and ask you which language you need instead, and then you change tack again and start talking about how you want to have a papers-please totalitarian state. And now you are spewing a bunch of racist bullshit. You on drugs?

  • @nonoctave Dude, your nation lost a war. Granted we cheated you every chance we got, almost exterminated you as a race, and two hundred years later your people struggle with their identity, but deep down inside can't you admit that indoor plumbing, central heating, and flush toilets were worth the cost? Where's the love man?

  • @bufordcrabtree There's no legal requirement that citizens have to possess or carry ID to be present in the US. One major reason for that is that papers-please societies are one of the defining characteristics of totalitarian police states.

I might agree that people who are not members of first nations tribes should have to carry documentation explaining themselves, what tribe has issued a visa to be in North America, and when that visa expires.

  • @nonoctave Well, there's the problem right? I suspect if you wrote your captions in every known language, with the intent of being all inclusive, some group would take offense that you included a different group. Some may take offense that their language was captioned after another language. It's much like expecting the citizens of a country to have some form of identification before being eligible to vote or use public services. Someone's going to be offended.

  • @bufordcrabtree I suppose I could put videos with captions in different languages, which languages do you recommend?

  • @nonoctave Sincere apologies my friend and thank you for abating my concerns. I have to ask, don't you think your taking a rather ethnocentric stance to expect that everyone who comments on your videos would be able to read the captions which are written in English?
