@xilukex1 to follow on what swallow 42 has said, getitng a cheap complete one would be the BEST idea...however you'd need to take into account the amount of rust the car has too, if its gotten into the sills and undercarriage unless your good at welding it'd be a NIGHTMARE to do, one of the reasons i had to turn one down sadly, as university and full time restoration couldnt go together, glad to see another of my generation interested though! hope you find one :)

@swallow42 one thing though as you know is tin worm on the B's many projects will have those awful little tin worms!
BUT...on another note...it's a shame you havent had any scimitar GTE's in to test drive :(

im 14 now and keep asking my dad if we buy one and do it as a father-son project! would you say it would work out cheaper buying one in 'good nick' or restoring one?

generally if you want a 'project' one then buy the worst, cheapest, but completest one you can, in my opinion. Depends how far into it you want to go, though.
