This is a song for the 14 Senators who are standing with Wisconsin workers in the effort to block Governor Walker's attempt to destroy union collective bargening rights. The tune is "borrowed" (with his knowledge) from Wisconsin's great union folksinger, Larry Penn. The original song was about another disaster in the Great Lakes area- the Edmund Fitzgerald (the song is also known as "29 Men") which predates Lightfoot's song. (Submitted Feb 23, 2011 -so this has a short "shelf-life")
