Pandit Mohan Shyam Sharma performs the "khat rangili" (expression of flamboyance) from the kudau singh
tradition of Pakhawaj.

The pakhawaj, said to have been invented by the Hindu god Shiva, is an ancient Indian two headed
barrel shaped percussion instrument. It is played with fresh kneed dough applied to the left side of the
drum that gives it its characteristic deep resonant sound. Although its been eclipsed by the two drum tabla
in folk and khayal forms of Indian classical music, a pakhawaj is still exclusively used for rhythmic accompaniment in the dhrupad tradition.
