The game is based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, and uses a simular style to the Star Wars: Battlefront games. The game allows the player to play as both the forces of good and evil, but unlike The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, the latter option is based around Sauron stopping the One Ring from being destroyed and fighting back.

The game is available on PS3, Xbox360, PSP, PC and Nintendo DS.

Game Modes

Campaign

There will be both Good and an Evil campaign, varying greatly in storyline. The good plays out as the films do and the evil plays out as a "what if Frodo didn't destroy the ring?" scenario.

Good Campaign (The War of the Ring)

The levels of the good campaign include:

* The Battle of Gorgoroth: Is the training stage and the first level in the game.

* Battle of Helm's Deep: The player must defend the ancient fortress of Helm's Deep from Saruman's Uruk-Hai.

* Isengard: Is presumed to be the third level of the Good Campaign, in which the player must fight Saruman as Gandalf.

* Mines of Moria: The player must fight their way through Moria ending the level with a climatic confrontation with the Balrog vs. Gandalf.

* Battle of Osgiliath: The player must defend Osgiliath from Sauron's armies.

* Battle of Minas Tirith: The player must defend the mighty white city.

* Battle of the Pelennor Fields: Will allow the player to play as the Rohirrim at the battle on the Pellenor Fields.

* Battle of Minas Morgul: This is a mission where the player must conquer the evil fortress so they can get to the Black Gate.

* Battle of the Black Gate: The mission objective of this level is to hold out against the wave of Saurons army. Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn are playable in this mission.

The campaign continues with loosely-based settings from the films, such as the Battle of Isengard as an Ent, Gandalf fighting Saruman at Orthanc, battling the Balrog in the Mines of Moria, battling the Nazgûl as Aragorn while protecting Frodo, battling at the Pelennor Fields as a Rohirrim cavalry soldier while destroying Siege Towers, battling at Helm's Deep, fighting at the Black Gate with Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli or Gandalf while defending your position, fighting with Shelob as Samwise Gamgee and fighting inside Minas Morgul.

Evil Campaign (The Rise of Sauron)

The Evil Campaign will be available after finishing the Good Campaign, and shows what would happen if Frodo failed to destroy the One Ring in an alternate story.

* Mount Doom: The player must play as a Nazgûl to kill the rebelling Orc chieftains and finally kill Frodo and Sam at the crack of doom.

* Osgiliath: The player must destroy and recapture the city in preparation to siege the White City.

* Minas Tirith: The player must destroy the White City to defeat the world of Men.

* Mines of Moria: The player must summon the Balrog and destroy the men of Gondor who have inhabited it.

* Weathertop: The player must kill Aragorn as a Nazgûl.

* The Shire: The player must go around burning the Shire and slaughter all of the hobbits.

* Rivendell: The player will destroy the Elves in Rivendell as Sauron himself!

Players will have the chance to fight as a Nazgûl that must kill Frodo, Oliphaunts at the Pelennor Fields, as Trolls at Helm's Deep , as the Balrog in Moria, as the Nazgûl against Aragorn at Weathertop, against the Shire, and lastly, as Sauron himself against Rivendell.

Both campaigns will be narrated by Hugo Weaving, who played Elrond in Peter Jackson's films and also narrated The Battle For Middle-Earth II.

Multiplayer

Competitive multiplayer modes include conquest, capture the flag and hero deathmatch, which all come from the Battlefront engine. Some new modes include:

* Ring Bearer: One player plays as Frodo and everyone else is a Ringwraith. The player playing Frodo must stay alive and evade the Ringwraiths as long as possible. The Ringwraith that kills Frodo becomes the new Frodo.

* Up to sixteen players can play online. Cooperative mode is available for up to two players for online only. Up to 4 players can play splitscreen on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

@LEGOZRULE Just because there are flashy swords and magic, does not mean that its fun. LOTR magic and stuff is subtle, and a true LOTR game would acknowledge that by making the game a little more realistic. An ordinary soilder would not be able to do combos like that, and spin around like an idiot. So Perhaps a fighting style similar Skyrim . And anything with The LOTR Title on it deserves to be true to J.R.R Tolkiens book, other wise what is the point, why not make up the world from scratch.

Ok guys, this game isn't supposed to be an exact replica of the book, and in fact not even based off of the book. It's just supposed to be a fighting game. Nothing more, nothing less.
