also the theory of relativity was experimental at first, but was never without any evidence, it was a puzzle piece that just "fit" in a hole science tried for decennia to fill without success, on top of that the more we learned of our world, the more it fit, although not completely, because once the science progressed to the point where we could test relativity to all its worth, it was replaced by 'special relativity'

Seems like you are not watching religions close enough. Sure, the do not change very fast, but they do, otherwise the catholic church still would burn heretics. And modern terrorism is not based in religion, religion is often just the excuse, but not the foundation that breed such behaviour.

it was not unfounded and unreasonable at the time, when people learned more about our world and found out it was the hogwash it is, it was quickly abandoned and replaced by more accurate systems

the true difference with religion is that science does what you described all the time... when something turns out wrong it is changed and corrected, while if religion turns out wrong the belief is dogmatised, disbelievers are burned on stakes, people are tortured and buildings blow up...

So when we had cosmic aether in science that was not unfounded an unreasonable until Einstein came along and replaced it with his theory of relativity which had at the time of its creation no evidence whatsoever? Go ahead and live in your dream world, I prefer to see things as they are, and not judge science because of that.

religion is not "just" belief, its "unfounded unreasonable belief in"

on top of that, scientists do not believe in evidence, they trust evidence but as soon as something happens for them to doubt that trust, they re-evaluate and if needed stop trusting the before-mentioned evidence for a better approximation of reality

So, evidence is the religion! Because one has to believe that evidence can actually tell us the truth about the world. I don't mind in what you believe, but you cannot tell me that to decide to believe in Science/Evidence is any more based on an irrational decision than believing in a god or whathaveyou.

Your legalistic definition of splitting hairs totally missed the point of my original comment...which is not surprising at all, considering that atheists wish to hijack and redefine just about every word and phrase with a legalism all their own. But at any rate, atheists promote the concept of "self" to the status of god in their own lives...now if that's too much for you to understand, then you should yield your failed argument to superior intellect; because you talked a lot, and said nothing.

As defined by the Oxford Dictionary religion is "the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods". Where Atheism lacks in that belief, it can't be deemed a religion as its so called churches or gathering grounds are not tax exempt either by Country or state. Atheism practices moral stand points, science, humanitarianism and a lot of common sense. It also practices equality for all people, regardless and exempt, from religion and stop religious law.
