This is a "tuft test" of the airflow behavior of a Hummelbird wing as it stalls. Notice that the stall is progressive, that is it begins at the root and progresses out to the tip. It didn't do that before the installation of stall strips on the leading edge of the center wing section. Instead, the entire wing tended to stall all at once. There is no "before" video because the stall was very abrupt which led me to put the stall strips on in the first place. I did not care to experience that stall while flying one handed.

  • Great work. Thanks for sharing. What are the dimensions of the stall strips and how did you figure out where to place the strips?

  • @TheRooster602 Testing of devices like stall strips can be potentially dangerous. Best to start small and move carefully. In the world of developmental testing the actual limits would be tested risking both the aircraft and pilot. I wasn't prepared to do that so I started with small strips (3"x2" folded 90' lengthwise) and installed with tape with the corner of the fold on the chord line in the center of the root section of the wing. Results were good so I stopped without further testing.
