After the Civil War, segregation of Black people was justified on the basis of a "one drop rule" which meant a person was considered Black even if they might look White, if they had Black ancestry. In the vlog, I discuss a similar notion, the "1-dB rule" which was used on Deaf people and its implications in terms of Deaf identity and community cohesion.

  • actually, they are concern how much residual hearing is destroyed after CI for several reasons.1. in case CI went wrong, they have enough hearing for a hearing aid 2. many severe to profound are afraid they'll lose their residual hearing (they were able to benefit from HAs). Its a risk with CI. So some people want to show surgeons can preserve residual hearing. thats just the way cochlear community do, ease any kind of nervousness about getting a CI surgery. They get mad if you interrupt that.
