No electric jug player will ever compare to Tommy Hall!, a very nice rendition though, try listening to the 1966 Avalon Ballroom version, it's fuckin jammin'! possibly try and recreate some of the energy that the Elevators had in that performance, with your performances of this song
My but its been a very long time! Ever seen Dirt Road to Psychedelia? Great movie and tells you right where Joplin came from. It even tells you where Powell St John and Joplin played together at Threadgills aroud 62. Man, I was born in the wrong damn era.
gunslinger32mag Saw them many many times they were the House band more or less at the Living Eye.Went for a paddy wagon ride downtown with them from there tripping .I was emailing a gunslinger that Sutherland lived with .They were always better in person , this band sure sounds close great someone is covering them.Hard to duplicate Roky's voice from that time .There first album was Green~kept seeing one that I was not familiar with ,its a re-issue. Someone please post Joplin Jamming with them .
sadhouse, did you ever see the elevators live in the 60's? I wasn't born till the 70's, but I dig the elevators. I was in middle school in the 80's in Houston when my cousin gave me my 1st copy of psychedelic sounds.
TexasTexan2 , hitting your name shows your into Rap , we Freaks dig this . This is no rip off , there are two of us here listening both have dropped ACID with Roky and The 13 Floor Elevators . We approve this message and this fine young group paying homage in the best way. Great job bring back the sound of Texas 40+ years ago. Sounds Fresh , New and Fucking Fantastic . Mission accomplished if your gonna do something do it right , they have and what is your bitch Rap Boy ?
These guys are obviously a tribute band to the 13th Floor Elevators. It says so in their description. I also took the liberty to check if this group had CD's for sale and they do not. I talked to Jennifer Marchand (the booking lady) at Ruta Maya in Austin (where this video was recorded) and she said 100% of the band's pay went to Roky's charity. I bet this is more money than TexasTexan2 has ever donated to Roky.
