At British Waterways' specialist lock gate workshops at Stanley Ferry in Yorkshire and Bradley in the West Midlands, more than 100 bespoke replacement lock gates have been hand-crafted in time for this winter's restoration programme. Each lock gate weighs on average 3.6 tonnes and is made by skilled craftsmen who take up to 20 days to finish each gate.

Today, the public were invited to take a look at what goes on behind the scenes at Stanley Ferry - about 1000 people have looked round so far!
