  • I was thinking of going to a hair dresser and picking up their cut hair clippings for my compost, supposed to be prime! Of course, keeping it wet is the issue. If I did dog food, it would be the end of my yard..I already have raccoons demolishing my compost occasionally, I wake up and find organic trash everywhere.

  • yes hair is high in nitrogen, tho it's slow to decompose. the best hair is men's hair(barber) and dog hair(dog trimming shops) women's hair tends to have more "products" in it.

you can put a fence over your compost pile and weigh it down with bricks, that will help alot with the raccoons tearing it apart.

    thanks for commenting

  • what? you bought dog food so you could compost it? huh...?..

  • yes the real cheap stuff. It helps to get the pile going real hot and feeds the good bacteria and insects so the weeds and bad bacteria are killed off.

I got the idea from a composting book

  • Raccoons for sure. They get into everything. Yeah, we have problems with skeeters, too, and they seem to love me but it's not mutual.

  • Nice compost pile!
