Cut from Christmas concert: Sissel, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square. 2006 Salt Lake City,Utah. Performing Vitae Lux by Frode Alnæs.
Introduction in Norwegian. Vocals in Latin.
In the introduction Sissel tells us about the old North Italian custom of St. Lucia that people in Scandinavia has adopted.
Take your time listen to this wonderful song (after the introduction), despite it's not been written in your native language I think many of you will find it just as wonderful as I do.

  • Fortsettelse:

  • continuation:

Every village had its own Lucia.

In Scandinavia it's now traditionthat on December 13th -

a young woman walks first in the procession -

    - dressed in whiteand with a crown of light on her head.

And they sing of light and hope.

The light and hope that symbolizes an even stronger and clearer light:

The light of life that came to us,and that we celebrate every Christmas.

  • For loukelly who requested a transcript of Sissels introduction.

    English:

During the cold winter months when, the sun can only be seen a few hours -

    - or never, a custom from northern Italy has come to us in Scandinavia:

The celebration of light during darkness: the procession of Santa Lucia.

For hundreds of years, on December 13th,a young woman dressed in a white gown.

Wearing a crown on her head and a torch in her hand she went from house to house -

    - with gifts and comforting words.

  • I don't know a word of Norwegian...but I would listen to Sissel recite the phone book.

  • I didn't understand a blinkin' word of what she said but I could listen to her for a good long time and never get tired of it.
