I think australia needs a national adult alternative station, so when bands that move out of the 15-24 demographic have somewhere to showcase their new albums and get recognition instead of fading away to obscurity.

Its all good and well to be able to stream it, but I generally listen to radio through my radio. At work. Which isn't on a computer.

Triple RRR 102.7 out of Melbourne streams live on the nest as does PBS 106.7, also out of Melbourne. Both showcase Australian music talent including Indigenous artists.Try shifting the JJJ studios to Melbourne and tossing the godawful and irrelevant Myf Warhurst into Sydney harbour along with the rest of her middle of the road BFF's.

Oh, trust me I would like to move on, but those stations are all east coast and none of them have any air over here in Perth. That is why I was calling for a national adult alternative station, emphasis on the national. These small community radio stations cannot give the same amount of support to a band that a national radio station could, a national station gives these bands a further reaching voice to continue their careers.

This phenomenon has more to do with ageing than anything else. The crap we listened to when we were teenagers was just as pre-packaged and obnoxious as anything that exists now. Perhaps even more so.

So, you've grown out of their target audience. You need to be more discerning now. Listen to (and support) your community radio stations (RRR,PBS,ZZZ,FBI....). There's more adult alternative music being produced and played than ever before. You owe it to yourself to move on.

The new "it" is indeed shit. I haven't listened to the radio or watched Rage in 10 years. I can't stand this latest Gossling-inspired "magpie with head injury" accent the singers are now using. The Rihanna "ghetto" accent was bad enough, but this is a whole new beast.

I'm only 13 but I listen to the old stuff and it's better. Triple J is playing more and more of the mainstream crap on commercial radio. They need to bring back the diversity, metal, hardcore and folk shouldn't just be left for the specialist shows (Short.Fast.Loud., The Racket and Roots n All). Triple J is still better than any other radio station by heaps though... except maybe Unearthed. I love them but they need to lift there game.
