Great choice of aircraft by the RAAF, it's a pity it's only to fill a gap and not for a continued role in maintaining Australia's defense.

Yeah I, like most, will be sorry to see the mighty F-111 leave our skies forever but at least it is, in the interim, being super seated by a worthy aircraft.

Also, congratulations Mr. Roberton on your promotion!! When last we met you we're 75 SQN's C.O. "Wing Commander" Roberton, so again congratulations Sir.

On the other hand, the F-111 lacks even the most rudimentary avionics suite as compared to modern airframes. Tell me, when did we ever make use of the F-111's payload or range? Or its virtually non-existant AA capability? In fact, give me one example of the F-111 being used in a real operation? Why would we instead use the F/A-18A as our 'bombtruck' in Iraq if there was no need for air superiority and the F-111 is supposedly so good? They haven't been a viable platform for a long time.

Gotta say though that I would not be surprised if the 35 was axed with its good gear cannibalized and inserted into the 22 (with a resumption of the line of course)...difficult yes, i know..

@hdmccart I've lost all credibility? You dont know what X band is an I've lost credibility? Of course why would you ask the people who make the F-35 as to its design paradigm? Of course you wouldnt ask CCA if Coke is in fact a cola. Mate you're a joke. Kopp is a joke because his arguments are ESAILY dissected for the absolute crap that they are, all specious crud built on flimsy assumptions. I have seen his CV, he's a mobile phone engineer IIRC. And AFAIK he has no security clearance level.

But most of all stating in a previous post "Dont believe every Kopp you read"...I'm assuming you're familiar with his CV? Maybe you are privy to some intelligence source that could enlighten us as to Kopps, et al, failings in analysis?

@hdmccart Cross band? I said X band as in X the letter, you know, comes after W? Its the band virtually all FCR's use. And yes the F-35 is designed around an all aspect LO concept, hit the LM website if you want a reference.
