It was the day before Halloween and I wanted to do my activity vlog. However, what I had planned was not to be. Last summer the Pumpkin crop in the Northeast was screwed up by weather conditions. That plus my procrastinating made it impossible to find a pumpkin.

This was my solution. A Japanese Pumpkin or "Kabokcha." After being warned by the internet that the skin was too tough to carve, I plowed on anyway. It was like cutting beef jerky. The skin of the Kabocha tore like an old book binding or wouldn't give at all. This paired with the stringy meat made it a rather inelegant affair.

So, just in time for Halloween, here is a "how to" on carving something you should never carve. I would have been better off with a butternut squash.

Please, don't let my griping about this stop you from enjoying the video. Perhaps, my suffering will bring you pleasure. :)

  • @onistpurpose thank you!

  • @zigmoparcheesi thank you too :)

  • That was a very scary Kabocha.

  • Very cool...

  • @JoeDixon Only bought one and it's going on my stoop. It would not be my first choice as a eating squash. Very hard.

  • Did you buy more than one? Curious what it tastes like. Maybe you should have made a Japanese Pumpkin Pie?
